generally speaking, there 2 types of raid, hardware raid , software raid. depends on requirements choose type of raid want implement. in general, hardware-based raid offers performance advantages on software-based raid. example, can improve data throughput implementing raid 5 through hardware not use system software resources. although software raid has lower performance hardware raid, software raid inexpensive , easy configure because has no special hardware requirements other multiple disks. if cost more important performance, software raid appropriate.
