Building a new Read only DC - License

hi all,

i build new read dc.

our current ad @ 2003 level.

what need licensing wise install new 2008 r2 server , promote read dc , raise level 2003/2008.

we have licenses activate 2008r2 servers there more needs done?

hi,

you can not have rodc running in domain without regular windows 2008 r2 dc running, rodc syncs windows 2008 dc , not sync windows 2003 dc.

you need follow following steps

  • prepare forest schema running adprep /forestprep. 
  • prepare each domain want install domain controller runs windows server 2008 or windows server 2008 r2 running adprep /domainprep /gpprep. 
  • prepare forest read-only domain controllers (rodcs), if plan install them, running adprep /rodcprep.

install new windows 2008 r2 server , promote domain controller.

install another windows 2008 r2 server @ location need rodc , run dcpromo on , promote rodc.
