Name Resolution Problems


sorry if  a repeat question.

in our company, running multiple os environment both client side , infrastructure side

our clients consist of windows xp sp3, small numbers of vista , windows 7 out there in process of upgrading our old machines new pc.

in our infrastructure side ad ds server running on w2k8 r2, dns server.

one of member server running windows 2003 - serves our sql server small cnc programming database. server name (akitr01) 

our vista computers not able ping akitr01 name can ping server through ip address.

all other clients doing fine ping server host name.

we have set network properties same setting other computers, there other solutions.

sorry if simple question still learning basic networking , naming resolutions services.

ping akitr01 failed means netbios name resolution failed.
vista computers ping failed other clients ping successful means netbios resolution across subnets failed.
default, computer browser service disable on windows 2008 server cannot netbios resolution.
please verify each dc servers computer browser service started , set automatic.
