rename forest domain name windows 2012 server

i have expand our current windows 2012 network, setup previous sysadmin .
problem current forest , root domain child.domain.com should domain.com
goal keep child.domain.com as child domain root forest should domain.com
possible rename root forest domain, still keep domain name child domain existing domain users ?
want rename forest domain name , keep current domain name child domain name .
goal if need create more child domain in existing tree :
newname.domain.com , not newdomain.child.domain.com
hope makes sense.
never done domain rename before , in advance

the effect of transitive, two-way trust relationships created automatically ad ds installation process there complete trust between domains in forest — every domain has transitive trust relationship parent domain, , every tree-root domain has transitive trust relationship forest root domain. if use domain rename process restructure existing forest altering domain tree hierarchy, necessary trust relationships not created automatically.
