Cannot access admin$

hello - item posted in server\security section has not been commented on since last week i'm entering details here in hope may take look.....tia

i'm attempting access share pc in untrusted forest.  client xp , server data stored 2008 sp1.

when attempt unc server connection made can view directories associated iis - can't example connect \\"ipaddress"\admin$ - error "the network path not found".

however there happens windows 2000 server in same untrusted forest able connect without issue - i'm prompted network credentials , once entered correctly i'm able connect admin$ share , navigate through directory structure.

so guess question how come can connect shares on 2k server (obviously security wasn't tight then) - , possible alter security settings on 2008 server allow connections share untrusted forest?

thanks advice offered
