WSUS server behind external ISA, clients use direct server URL to download updates

this hard describe, if isn't clear, let me know.

we've got wsus server set behind external isa server provide external wsus access remote clients.

the internal server name pfgdsmindwsus12.

the external access it, , how configure clients contact it, through secure07.companyname.com.

this works , good, long configure wsus have clients download updates directly microsoft.  if configure wsus have clients download updates directly wsus server, try download through internal pfgdsmindwsus12/content path instead of external secure07.companyname.com/content path.

client communications status checking , reporting still work fine, it's use wrong path try download updates.

how clients use external server name url download updates able have clients download updates wsus server instead of microsoft?

i go through document mentioned above. isa server used web proxy publish internal wsus server.

i can't find official document how wsus client gets download url of update. point of view, when client requests download url, internal wsus server return the internal download url. reason, isa server doesn't inspect , replace download url in message. client gets internal url.

could tell me why want force client download update wsus server? update file transferred via http. it's not encrypted. save internet bandwith if let client download update microsoft update.
