NLB - Criteria used for balancing

if network load balancing used among group of win 2008 r2 servers creteria used determine node services client?

is done in round robin fashion, or connection go node has least number of active connections, or least traffic?

basically i'm asking metric used load, connection requests, active connections, bandwidth or combination of these and/or other measures.
