Windows Storage Server 2003R2 Admin shares inaccessible?

i have 2 windows storage server 2003 r2 boxes unable remotely access admin shares (c$, d$, h$, admin$) when logged on system (server or client) non-administrative account input correct admin credentials when  prompted.

when logged on server or client system non admin account , attempt access "\\servername\c$" prompted credentials expected when input administrative username\password "servername\c$ not accessible. might not have permission use network resource.....".

that said, if attempt remotely access admin share of previous versions of server (2000, 2003) when logged on server or client system admin account can access them without problem.

note:
1. servers have firewall service disabled , in single site ad domain.
2. 2 storage 2003 r2 servers configured , using dfs namespaces & replication.

is there fundamental difference way storage server 2003 r2 handles access admin shares compared previous iterations of windows server may causing issue? if so, can advise workaround? appreciated. thank you.

hi,

based on research, hidden share(c$,d$,h$, admin$) used administrator administration purpose. there no difference way handle admin share between windows storage server 2003 r2 , previous windows server 2003. hidden share accessible user have administrative credential on target server.

workaround:

for ordinary domain user, can use following command line explicitly specify administrative credential access admin share domain client.

net use \\ipaddressofthetargetserver\c$ /user:domainname\administrator <password>

hope helps.
