Loss of communication problem

a friend of mine works @ small school has inherited system consisting of several windows server 2003 enterprise , windows server 2008 enterprise systems , has problem.

 

1 sometimes, no reason, clients lose communication servers. client (usually windows xp sp3) connected multiple shares , seem working. if user lets clent go sleep, on waking client _sometimes_ show shares, of shares, 'disconnected', , way reconnected reboot client. takes 2 tries connection. has happened @ least 1 vista sp2 system well. have seen 'my computer' window display disconnected shares, never under controlled conditions it's not clear cause this.

 

2 sometimes, no reason, _all_ clients, every single 1 of them on 1 particular network (there three: wireless network, wired student network, , wired staff network) lose communications shares. if tries open share, system displays hourglass. if application such ms word tries contact printer, reports 'word contacting printer hp4100 in room 505' , sits there. similar messages show if word (or other apps) attempting access file on share. internet services halt. continue half hour , spontaneously go away. can connect again , fine, until next time. problem occurs on wired student , wireless networks , affects clients, regardless of os. failures have been observed win xp sp3, vista sp2, win 7, ubuntu 9.04, ubuntu 10.04, mac os x 10.5, , mac os x 10.6. when 1 network goes down, other 2 work well.

 

dhcp , dns being run server 2003 machines. maximum users logged in @ 1 time under 250, under 150. problems can occur few 50 users, while system can run fine many 300 users.

 

does have ide might happening here? 

yes, dhcp server should hand out static address of ad server as primary dns server address clients can find dc. put isp's dns addresses in forward lookup of dns server clients can find internet. make sure server has static ip address outside of dhcp scope.

Azure MFA with Azure AD and RDS
